Stepping Towards Peace

Stepping Towards Peace: Stepping Towards Ourselves

Peace can only be felt when you stop demanding its prescence.

When we try to control the way peace enters our life we also limit the possibility of what peace can be. To realize that our imagination is still pushing boundaries that the universe already knows its way around. How can we demand something that we do not fully comprehend? To feel entitled to something we did not work for. Peace is not a thing we bring towards us, but rather a thing we step towards. It’s an internal journey reflected in our ways of living. A state of being that requires us to know ourselves in the truest form.

Stepping towards Peace is the process of healing. Healing as acceptance otherwise known as “letting go”. There is no “letting go” without holding the thing itself. To be able to find acceptance we first have to sit with the thing that makes us uncomfortable. Too many of us turn to run when pain finds us. And because we run from the problem we end up running from ourselves, stuck in the past thinking we’re running to the future. And so the process of healing means coming back to ourselves and coming back to discomfort.

To return to ourselves as a listener as opposed to a speaker is the commitment we must make to ourselves everyday. To slow down so that we can see ourselves. A self reflection that helps us see the world. Finding the place where peace exists. Finding it within ourselves. When will we commit to accepting ourselves? Commit to stop denying our own existence. Commit to loving ourselves. When will we begin to hold ourselves? The support we really always needed.

When I think of peace I think about its relationship to time, or how it shifts my relationship with time. Suddenly there is no such thing as “too much” or “too little”. I don’t have a lot of it but I’m not running out of it. A moment becomes a moment, not based on the time it takes but on the way it lives. When we focus on the way we leave we let go of the need to control time. We let go of everything we think we need and begin to find stability where we are.
